Turmeric

Turmeric is a staple in Indian kitchen, that was once called the poor man's saffron but now considered Indian gold.  Turmeric has recently gained media recognition for its many restorative and preventative qualities. Many of the healing properties of turmeric are attributed to curcumin

Flavor & Pairing: Pungent flavor that pairs well with allspice, garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander cardamom, caraway and black pepper.

Culinary Uses: Turmeric is a key ingredient in curry powder.  Used in the Middle East and North  Africa to flavor and color sauces, syrups, rice dishes, meats, and vegetables.
