Juniper Berry


Juniper Berry is the seed cone of the evergreen tree, Juniper.  Whole, dark blue berries with a pine-like aroma when crushed.  These berries are used to give a slightly citrus and pine like flavor to beverages and food.  The best known use of juniper berry today is as the main flavoring agent in gin.


Origin: Europe

Flavor & Pairing: Juniper Berries pairs well with caraway, garlic, thyme, marjoram, pepper and rosemary. 

Culinary Uses: Add to soups, braised meats and game. The whole berries are also traditionally added to sauerkraut.
